Terraformar, o la idea de modificar deliberadamente la atmósfera, temperatura, superficie y ecología de un planeta para hacerlo habitable para los humanos, ya no es una idea de ciencia ficción. Con la crisis climática y ecológica, hoy parece que los esfuerzos están en volver a terraformar la Tierra.
Este sueño tecnosolucionista, colonial y androcéntrico es una excusa para nuestro instituto: ¿cómo sería una terraformación de la Tierra desde una lógica feminista y latinoamericana? ¿Qué tecnologías sería factibles para segurar la vida de los humanos pero también de los diferentes ecosistemas?
En medio de los tecno-sueños que ansían mantener vivo el cadáver podrido del capitalismo global extractivista, este instituto es un espacio de reflexión feminista para pensar críticamente las tecnologías en el contexto de la crisis climática y ecológica que enfrenta América Latina.
En un triple movimiento, traemos discusiones históricas sobre la justicia social en nuestro continente, examinamos cómo los arreglos tecnológicos fundamentales para enfrentar el cambio climático son intencionalmente despolitizados para mantener el orden colonial, y generamos colectivamente narrativas tecnológicas creativas que construyen nuevos presentes y futuros posibles: una Terraformación tecnológica feminista.

Latin American Institute of Terraforming
Terraforming is the idea of deliberately modifying a planet’s atmosphere, temperature, surface, and ecology to make it habitable for humans. This concept is no longer restricted to science fiction. Given the climate and ecological crisis, efforts are now focused on terraforming Earth once again.
This vision of techno-solutionism, rooted in colonial and androcentric ideas, underpins our institute's inspiration. We ask: How might terraforming Earth be reimagined from feminist and Latin American perspectives? What specific technologies could genuinely support the survival of all humans and diverse ecosystems?
Amid techno-dreams aimed at sustaining extractivist global capitalism, this institute offers a space for feminist reflection. Here, we critically examine technologies in the context of the climate and ecological crisis facing Latin America.
We use a three-pronged approach. First, we bring historical discussions on social justice to our continent. Second, we examine how essential technological frameworks for addressing climate change are intentionally depoliticized to uphold the colonial order. Third, we collectively generate creative technological narratives, building new possible presents and futures: a feminist technological terraforming.
